Twitch is a live streaming service spun off from Justin.tv in 2011. A subsidiary of Amazon twitch’s main purpose is live streaming video games, esports competitions, musical broadcasting, and creative content like real life streams that can be watched either live or on demand.

In 2014 Amazon bought twitch for close to a billion dollars. With this buy out came Amazon Prime members getting the twitch membership included. Twitch later introduced a way to but games through links and a commission program so streamers can make money from sales of games they play.

The broadcasting platform continued to grow exponentially and by 2018 it was the home of 2.2 million broadcasters every month and there were 15 million users daily. With over 27,000 partner channels and the millions of broadcasters there is a limitless amount of content on this platform.

If you have ever been on YouTube then you know you can things videos about any topic you can think of including broadcasts of gamers playing their games. When Twitch started it was made up of broadcasts of esports tournaments, personal streams of players, and gaming related talk shows. With the high demand for content Twitch expanded into non-gaming content by adding new categories to the platform. Now viewers can find categories music streams, creative streams, and IRL streams (everything that don’t fall into other categories). When you decide to become a broadcaster/streamer you can have the opportunity to monetize your streams. After you create a substantial following and reach a high enough status you could start but getting half of the subscription amount, either $2.50, $5.00, or $12.50. If you become popular enough Twitch may decide to pay you more to ensure you continue to stay on their platform. Make money as an affiliate or a partner.
